I have bought one of the the 32" versions of this for a family member, its a good LCD for the money. Theres loads of codes to be had for currys/comet/dixons (but go see your chosen panel set up in a proper av shop first) which can drop the price down somewhat. Just look on hotukdeals.

Theres lots of considerations to take in when venturing into this world, and 42" puts you in plasma territory which muddies the water.

1) Is your room (where the panel is going) bright (direct sunlight etc?) or dim?

2) How big is your room, and how far from the panel are you going to be sitting?

3) Is it mostly going to be used for film/TV or PC use?

4) Are you going to be using any HD sources? And by HD I mean SkyHD/ Bluray/ HD-DVD/ PS3/ 360 - not upscaling DVD players...

5) Whats your max budget?

From these five questions you can generally narrow down the choices to suit your needs.

the room its going in is quite dim
probably sitting about 10 - 12 feet from tv
will be using hd and probably set up th xbox 360 now and then.
max i want to pay is around £850
its going to be used for films and general tv watching.
