Hi, not sure if this is the correct place to ask but, does anybody know if you can connect a laptop to a dvd recorder (hdd) via the s-video connection and record movies( avi/divx) from your laptop to the hardrive of the dvd recorder ready for transfer onto dvd disc? is this possible?

Yes its possible, but I wouldn't recommend it: You'd have a noticeable loss of quality as you'll essentially be converting digital-to-analogue-to-digital, only to watch it via analogue (assuming the DVD recorder is attached to your TV via scart/composite).

If your DVD recorder does not support 'web' formats (avi, xvid, divx etc) you can always convert to avi/xvid/divx file to MPEG before burning to disc. If your laptop doesn't have a DVDRW drive then external drives are available for under £50:

There are several bits of software that allow you to convert to DVD, check out DW's Burning CDR + DVDR sub-forum for more advice.

thanks for the info, looks like its going to be a non starter.
