laptop not workin properly need help ASAP PLEASE!!!!!!

turned on my lappy today and just gettin a blank screen after i put in my password, all that cums up is a window with files in. it is the same window if you press computer then i can choose things from that window, thats how im on the internet now. if i close that window it stays black. ive rebooted but stayed the same. any help is appreciated. thanks.

well all of them but only in the window, i tried screenshot but it is too big to upload on here. there is no toolbar,start button, nothing apart from that window

thats all i see

did it work then? If it did I am impressed.

You shouldnt need to, but restart it and have another try. If it does need to be done again, you may need to repair windows.

explorer should start automatically with windows, if it doesnt then something is definitely wrong.

This isnt my own work, we have a handbook for this sort of thing from work:

Click start, type 'regedit' and hit <enter> to open the registry editor.
Expand the keys at left to reach:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Click on this key, then locate the 'shell' string in the right pane. Double
click it, replace the contents with just:

explorer.exe

Click ok, then close the registry editor and reboot.

Did you make a note of what was in the shell entry in the registry ?


That would give an idea of how the change occured.

it was directing me to the documents page, think it was c: summit summit summit lol

if you press start then documents, that was the page i was gettin but it is sorted now
