kids getting wii..what next

I have just ordered a wii(black) i was looking at site and seems you can not mod.
i was looking to softmod option.

my concerns are with it being new and not mine i may kill it.kids and wife will go ape........or should i leave alone!!

is softmod idiot proof i.e can you fix an error when modding.

and my next question is it easy to put games on external hd if that is the only option of using back ups.

Pretty sure the Black Wii's softmod in the same way as the other ones mate, just follow Bally's guide and you can't go wrong.

Running off the USB HDD is a breeze mate, I used Dogtoffee's guide for this, IIRC.

I'm sure somebody will confirm the above though mate, as I'm no expert...

Softmod is the same, if you want to play DVDR you need to replace the drive board (about 30 quid on ebay).

When you softmod:

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A NAND BACKUP.

You can screw up your Wii, at least with a nand backup you can send your wii to someone like me and get it working again, with no backup you are screwed.
