Personally I would go for the Gigabit model...Both of them do raid/jbod but only the 1st one has gigabit...And if your storing large ISO's on there you will really see the difference in speed...Altho if you don't have a gigabit network I guess that doesn't really matter.....

Or you could just use an old computer and setup Freenas....Works a treat for me...

The first looked OK to me. As pootas said, if you have an old PC laying around consider building your own nas.

How easy is it to build freenas? Is it just software installed on XP? or is it an OS itself? I have got a old pc which is a decent spec so might be a better option.

Its an OS in itself, very low hardware requirements.

If this box is on all the time you can add on extras like torrent client, FTP & HTTP servers, etc.
