Ipod & Iphone 3GS

I have the above devices and wanted to transfer music to them but neither of them will connect to my Windows 10 pc via ITunes. The Ipod which has IOS 6.1.6 is recognised fine by the pc. Are there any free non Apple software that can be used to copy the files across to the devices?

Could try an older version of iTunes?

Downloaded Itunes 10.6.3 which had an extension of .dmg which seemed to totally confuse Windows 10 as it asked for an app to install the file. This seems to be a mac file will search for an old windows version.
