I'll leave you with some photos taken from striped smartcard ROMs

ROM142 is in use at Portugal, ROM180 in Spain

Chip dimentions, measured with a Digital Caliper:

Rom10: 4.24mm * 3.85mm = 16.324mm2
Rom110: 2.92mm * 2.97mm = 8.6724mm2
Rom142: 3.70mm * 2.76mm = 10.212mm2
Rom180: 3.08mm * 3.02mm = 9.3016mm2

This chips as you might know have a mesh layer on top, so you can´t get easy access to the device, and can´t see what is under the mesh without getting it off.
Since I'm not a Pro like Christopher Tarnovsky, and don't have Pro equipment and chemicals, this is as far has I could see the ROM142 chip 'till now. As all I know for sure is that de chip is an ST19, marked K7B0A1 from 2005.

The next photos were taken from a ROM180 from Spain. And all I know is that It's an Atmel chip marked 58808 from 2004.

Sory but the PDF docs are only available in portuguese, but since they are mostly photos, I think they may be usefull anyway.

This is my hacked modest microscope Bresser Biolux AL (not shown here, the USB camera attached)

At the right in the photo, you can see an AT computer PSU turned into a simple hotplate providing only 2 temperature set.

Best Regards
