can a bmw be set so the tv can be viewed when driving it a 3 series 05 model any help would be appreciated

Hi Boss

Yip - not a problem - one of the wires from the tv screen
video module will be marked PARKING BRAKE or similar
(or trace it to the handbrake switch) - dis-connect this
wire and short it to -ve connection (any exposed metalwork
should do) ............... job done!

would you know where excatly this wire is and what color it is

Hi All

Sorry - need to know the make and model of tv unit!
eg panasonic video unit has all wires marked with
labels such as +ve , speaker right , parking brake etc

only other way is to find the colours of the wiring loom
for the car - identify the handbrake wire for the car
loom - then trace the cable from the tv unit (it will be
connected somewhere along it's length)

hope this helps

its abmw 325 ci i think 05 model its standard bmw fitment with satnav

Hi All

Sorry for the delay...........i've done some research into the bmw
sat/nav standard oem systems - not good news i'm afraid -
unlike most other tv/video units, the bmw tv kit links the video
signal with the speedometer and will not allow video signals
to reach the screen at speeds greater than 3km/h - i have
tried to obtain wiring diagrams for the kits - but so far failed
- all companies so far are only interested in selling the kit
with "easy to install instructions" - i'll let you know if i find
anything helpful!

Most similar systems rely solely on the handbrake switch with
the assumption being that the vehicle cannot be driven with
the handbrake on! - but it seems bmw have went that little bit
further to ensure your safety on the roads - bless them!

i can tell you that as soon as the car is put into drive (its an automatic) the tv goes off

Hi Guys

It seems that there are a few electronic mods
available on the market to allow watching tv
while driving (i think it actually improves my driving!)
anyway - have a look here......

Pannic ye not. This is a software issue and can be resolved simply. I cannot remember exactly how to do it at the moment, but when I fire up my laptop tomorrow morning for work I will look up how to do it and let you know tomorrow night.

enter "contrast"
when the green contrast bar is visible, push the knob and keep it pressed
turn ignition off (keep button pressed!)
wait 8-10 seconds (timing must be accurate!)
release the knob
turn on ignition again :)
