It's very important to keep hydrated if you exersize, but just as so if you don't. I see many people around me who never ever drink water (only pop, tea or coffee or etc) and I can see that it is contributing to overall health issues.

The measurement are in American units but it's simple to workout using google conversion.
"Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily."
1. So, this is how I worked it out for me. I weigh about 12.7 Stone. Go to Google and type in "12.7 stone in Lbs", press enter and it tells me "12.7 stone = 177.8 pounds" ... So I just rounded it off into 180 Lbs.
2. Half of that is 90, so I should be targeting 90oz of water a day... 90oz? bloody Americans.
3. Google "90 oz into pints", Google tells me "90 Imperial fluid ounces = 4.5 Imperial pints"
4. So again, you can round that off to a round-a-bout average target... I would say I need to be targeting around 5 pints a day - if I manage 4, then it's not so bad and still near the target.
Please read the source link posted at the top for more information and info about what a lack of water can do to your health.
