It's very important to keep hydrated if you exersize, but just as so if you don't. I see many people around me who never ever drink water (only pop, tea or coffee or etc) and I can see that it is contributing to overall health issues.

source: The Water Cure recipe drinking water, chlorine, minerals

The measurement are in American units but it's simple to workout using google conversion.

"Drink 1/2 your body weight of water in ounces, daily."

1. So, this is how I worked it out for me. I weigh about 12.7 Stone. Go to Google and type in "12.7 stone in Lbs", press enter and it tells me "12.7 stone = 177.8 pounds" ... So I just rounded it off into 180 Lbs.

2. Half of that is 90, so I should be targeting 90oz of water a day... 90oz? bloody Americans.

3. Google "90 oz into pints", Google tells me "90 Imperial fluid ounces = 4.5 Imperial pints"

4. So again, you can round that off to a round-a-bout average target... I would say I need to be targeting around 5 pints a day - if I manage 4, then it's not so bad and still near the target.

Please read the source link posted at the top for more information and info about what a lack of water can do to your health.

Here are some of the symptoms that you need more water:

•Dry Skin: Skin is the largest body organ and requires its share of water.

•Thirst: Thirst is the most obvious sign that you're already dehydrated. It is always a good practice to drink more water when your are not thirsty, don’t wait until you're thirsty.

There does seem to be a lot of debate about this at the moment. There was something that the 8 glasses a day has never actually been proved to be as benefical as claim. Difficult to say as these water companies are pretty powerful. Who would have thought that bottled water would cost more then petrol.

Does water in food, squash and other non-dehydrating drinks count ?

Like you say, there's a lot of debate. Some people would even say you can hydrate by drinking beer. The purer the source of water though the easier is will be for your system to process and use that for flushing your system out and distributing it around the body.

I think common sense and experience tells us all that drinking beer far from hydrates you. Obviously you can survive with a level of health just by taking water from food and other drinks, but doesn't mean you are close to or anywhere near peek performance.

My personal experience would also tell me that drinking the correct amount of water daily makes my system run 100% smoother. More energy, better digestion, clearer skin, brighter eyes etc... The skin on my lips cracks very, very easily if I let my water drinking slip.

I' m sure there isn't an athlete in the world who wouldn't recommend the drinking of water, but for overall health, we are, what, 90% water? doesn't take a much to realise it would be very helpfull to stay hydrated and drink the recommended amount.

Suppose you would just have to try it out for yourself if you are not sure...

is it possible to drink too much water?....im about 160lb and i drink about 3 litres of water a day its the only thing i drink(not just because its good for you just i like it)...apart from weekends! but someone told me its not good for you and that i drink far too much is this true??

cheers.

you can drink too much water, but three litres if not taking other fluids sounds fine.

Too much of anything and all that... Yeah, obviously there have been reports in the media about people dying from drinking too much water in too short a time, but they are people who were on drugs or drunk at the time.

To be honest, I don't know how much is too much. 3Ltrs is more than enough for your weight, so you could cut it down a bit, but I seriously doubt drinking that amount through the day is detrimental to your health... Just people who have been scare mongered by the media say and think this... and usually people who say it don't like drinking water when they know they should, and that is their excuse... That's what I find anyway ;)

4.Better Productivity at Work: Your brain is mostly made up of water, thus drinking water helps you think better, be more alert and more concentrate.

i normally only ever drink water when mixed with a squuash or with my beer..

i just dont like the taste of it tbh

may have a pint or so in the morniong after a good night out but then that leaves me feeling bloatred and ill ..

prob due to too much the night before

i drink loads of water to the point where as i dont sleep for more than 3 or 4 hours without taking a leak

it is contradictory to an extent

try drinking more of your fluids earlier on in the day. also try taking a spoonful of honey before bed, this sometimes helps. :)

are you sure its the amount of water you drink that causes this, if you think there might be another possible cause mention it to your doctor.

I was never keen on it either mate, but eventually I become accustomed to the clean, refreshing simplicity of it. I drink mine out of a protein shaker, psychologically it helps remind that I'm doing it for a reason, health and fitness. Also keeps it fresher becasue of the lid.

Don't nail it in one or two goes. Drink 2 large swigs every go. When you go to drink the next 2 swigs, ask yourself if you can still feel the last swigs in your stomach. If you can't then drink another 2, if not, leave it a bit longer. So 1 shaker full should last from morning till lunch time'ish, then do another shaker full in the afternoon.

If you drink it this way you won't be needing a slash all the time, your body will just absorb it and send it to where it is required. You should notice a couple of large healthy slashes a day, which is good, the water will help helping flush toxins out of your system.

Take a look at your skin and after a few days of drinking about x2 protein shakers full a day, take another look at your skin and eyes. I garuntee you will see and feel the difference. You just need to get over this it's dull, it's boring, tastless water thing, and you will eventually apprechiate it for what it is.

You need to give it a few days... say 3 or 4 days trial...

2L of water a day?????? I'd be up all night pi$$in' !!

Not really m8, you will at first but the body will adjust itself for the amount you are taking. It's like starting to take massive amounts of Vitamin C say 10 grams or more a day, at first you will experience mild diarrhoea but the body will adjust itself and the diarrhoea will stop after a day or 2
