How do I help an idiot to find his microsoft account?

I didn't feel up to upgrading a friends gaming pc so he took it elsewhere. The guy who did it has all the system files on a 1Tb hard drive which used to be the boot drive and the windows folder was on a m.2 drive. Lazy fooker either couldn't or didn't fancy reinstalling windows to the ssd.

I've installed to the ssd but am now being asked for his microsoft account with no option to skip. He keeps giving me the same email address and I can't get through to him that if it was correct he would have received a code by now to reset the password.

Is there an easy foolproof method of finding which email he used? bearing in mind he's an idiot.

cheers Spud, we just managed to get into it. He was giving me the correct email address so the codes are probably in his junk folder.

Now I'm going through the same with his Steam account ffs
