Other Help with Windows Explorer in Windows 8

Help needed with Windows Explorer.

When I try to open windows explorer, the screen goes blank for a second or two then goes back to the previous screen.
I tried going through the HP (not) Quick Start icon but the same thing happens.

have you tried pressing the windows key + E

Just tried that and does the same thing (blank screen and return to the previous screen).

if you start task manager does it show in Processes, if it does try right click on it and restart

you need to look at all the actions you did just prior to this happening (updates , install of programs etc.) as one of these might be the cause of the problem.

maybe a system restore is the answer

Just before I did a system restore, I notice my Norton was not turned on, so try to turn it on but having the same problem as Window Explorer :comp1:.
Did a system restore to wipe out the last Windows 8 and WD Drive Utilities update.
Windows Explorer is now working as normal but my Norton still won't turn on, so I logged into my Norton account and all it shows is the trial version on my laptop :bangshead:.
Very puzzling as I have the paid Norton (360 Premier Edition) icon showing on my desk top but not the standard trial version (Internet Security) icon :err:.
