I've just flashed DW1.61 (Enigma) image to a genuine Dreambox 500C (says 1.6 on title screen, is that right?).
I've gone through the setup but all channels are breaking up with sound very distorted.

Any idea's?

[EDIT] Signal is 95%. I scanned for services with the cable fed directly into the box. Breakup and sound distortion happens with cable directly in box and also when fed through a 2 way splitter with internet on the other port.

No booster. Signal is 95% though.

There's no chance I could have done something wrong when scanning for transponders and channels is there? It did seam really straightforward.

I chose Bruteforce for UK
Lock and sync boxes unticked by default
Finds a valid transponder (only free is unticked by default)
Start scan

Tried scanning again, same problem.

Picture breaking up with sound very slow and distorted, also seems out of sync (a couple of seconds behind the picture). The only real way to describe the sound is how it used to sound when a tape recorder started to run low on battery pooowwwweeerrrrrrrrrr :(

Check BER SNR AGC without splitter and then with fitted splitter.

Without:

SNR - 94%
AGC - 45%
BER - 0

With:

SNR - 94%
AGC - 45%
BER - 0

So, same with when using splitter and cable direct.

Splitter is a Qamtex 2 way - 3.5dB both ports

sometimes my agc goes as low as 43% with them setting my pics are very good .as yours should be . my Splitter is a Qamtex 4 way good Splitter

Wonder if its a faulty box then?

Is a change of image likely to make a difference?

Either the number readings are botched at your image or there is no signal problem.

I've just tried the box on a friends cable about a mile away.
Exactly the same problem.

His details are:

SNR - 92%
AGC - 50%
BER - 0

Is this looking like a faulty box?

Would anybody advise reflashing the DW1.61 (Enigma) image?

If so, how would I go about that?
The method I used to flash was advised by Devilfish....

FTP the image to the tpm folder on the dreambox then telnet this command:

cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp DW.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot

Would I need to revert back to a stock image before reflashing?
Obvioulsy the tmp folder now contains a few files. Could I just delete them then start again by sending the image to the tmp folder?

I would try Gemini 3.4 from the downloads before I conclude that the box is faulty. Had a similar problem and turned out to be the image. Try a flash erase first and start from scratch. The signal readings seem to be fine.

Hi try changing the cams ****

Could you please explain that a little, its something I've been wondering about but hadn't got around to asking the question.

What are cams and what do they do?

Thanks guys, appreciate your time and effort.

Thanks Alan, I'll try that if the reflash of DW1.61 doesn't work out.
When you say flash erase I assume I use a specific program to erase everything from the box? Do I then have to reload the original software before flashing Gemini 3.4?
Which program is generally used to flash Genimi software?

Thanks again.

[EDIT] Noticed the erase command in the above telnet command so I guess that takes car of that.

I tried DW1.61 again, same problems so I've just flashed Gemini 3.40 and am in the process of searching for service. I'll report back!

Fast Zapping

had similar problem with two boxes i had audio going out of sync and poor video. Under setup/expert setup untick enable fast zapping then reboot , sorted audio and improved the picture.
