i hav a pioneer dvd writer installed it on my lads comp but it wont recognize any disc any 1 help much obliged

Try this...

Right click My Computer then select Manage
Select Device Manager
Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives
Right click the drive and select delete

Reboot the PC. It should detect the drive when it reboots and reinstall the drivers for it.
