Hi all - got a problem and could do with some expert! advice.

Want to install 3mtr dish and cable up 43 blocks of 4 aparts to watch sky. Owners will all provide box and card. Longest length from dish will be about 500 mts. All aprts already have sat cable installed from roof. All aprts have phone cable installed but no phone (ever). HD is not requirement.

Any product that will allow me to use the telecom cable? Maybe best bet is a number of distrib amps?

İf this was ethernet then no problem but stuck hard here! Thanks guys

first off m8, you need to know what cable is installed, as over 500M youll have hell of a signal loss

you can use multiswitches, taps and amps to do it, but the lengths of the cables are going to dictate what equipment you use

500m thats a long way wouldn't it be easyier to use a couple of sat dishes

thnks for hlp

The cable, as far as i can see, is standard sat cable. Each appt is fed from the roof to f socket in the house. The actual feed cables wıll be the best i can get - either here or the uk.

Forgive my ignorance but the difference between splitter and tap is..............?

Any pointers to a supplier that you think may understand my problems?

Changing the subject you heard of techstar dvs 5000 box? Available here at pocket money prices.

Thanks in advance

The cables going to the roof arent going to be much use unless you are planning an overhead cable system, like telegraph poles running down the streets.
500m is too far to get a working co-ax distribution system anyway, the signal loss means you would need several dishes at different locations in the urbanisation, or perhaps something like a 10m dish maybe.
I have installed several 3m dishes to cover developments, or 2.4m dishes for roads or apartment blocks etc, just not in your country so dont know a supplier for you.
Many places elsewhere in europe use locally re-transmitted systems for distance distribution and I think this would suit your situation more. Perhaps look for a supplier of MMDS equipment or specialist 2.4ghz broadcasting products. You could then have a aerial on the roof & use the existing co-ax, and just have 1 dish feeding a local control room.

Transmitting will require local licence which may be illegal and not granted anyway. If you broadcast unencrypted then people could also tune in for free so you may need to look into encryption protection.

What is your set-up budget? Expect investment to be high for this type of equipment. With any development that is large in size you should also expect large ongoing running costs and it will create full time jobs. Seek a local specialist who has experience as its not something suited to a beginner imho.
