help needed on how to change software

can some1 pls show a tut or explain on how i can change the software of a 1000 pace box {from ntl to tw} which chips i have to take out and flash which proggy to use. is it true that u can change the software by a smartcard which will have the source code needed to update the software. what if i take my box to a ntl area and let it update would that work in a tw vod area thanks

had a ntl 1000 box which was on cr1 anti update mod done which worked ok on tw till vod rolled in, all get now is a dot in the right side of the display and no numbers hope this explains it m8
