Help needed: mediaportal/gbpvr + dvb-c + softcam

Hi digital worldz

I am trying to get DVB-C cable to decrypt on my media pc and i have had no luck yet:

My Setup:
HTPC + Win7
mediaportal (nice interface)
or
gbpvr (much faster channel changes)

I have digital cable DVB-C which needs no card for unencrypted channels, therefore some sort of card reader/hacker is out, I guess.
I have worked out (I think) that i need a softcam of some kind

I have both mediaportal & gbpvr installed
With mediaportal:
I tried emunation, i could get the DVB tray icon showing (with vista tray icon script) only with mediaportal
and it just sat there, waiting for some packet to arrive for hours,
on an encrypted channel, with a black picture, and not decrypting anything

With GBPVR:
I can get no DVB tray icon at all
and it just sits there, for hours,
on an encrypted channel, with a black picture, and I can't tell if it's doing anything at all.

Does anyone know a setup that works?
I don't know if i need other files,
or if some softcams don't work on dvb-c

Any and all advice, would be greatly appreciated
