Hi my Green Fingered Friends lol

whats a good hardy grass seed ? My dog is a sod for scraping after he has done his toilets and now needs re seeding

I wouldn't say he has ruined the grass but its bare where he does scrape

We also have a few burn patches that Id like to seed over so Ive bought some Miracle-Gro Patch Magic Dog Spot Repair to try, fingers crossed

cheers for any advice

:)

You are best going to your local independent garden centre and buy some seed from there. You can normally buy it buy it in lose form considerably cheaper than the branded stuff.
You are best over seeding otherwise you will get a patchwork of different grasses and colours on your lawn.

Its funny you know talking of grass seeds but around say 5 years back when we used to have birds. We threw some bird seen out one day into the back garden and within 3-4 weeks we had some lovely grass i think we threw it out for the birds.Might be a cheaper alternative but tbh i dunno how much bird seed or grass seeds cost now days.So dont know what would be cheaper.

I used to keep birds as a kid and remember planting bird seed and growing it to give to the birds lol

I know there are a few types of grass seeds and remember reading at some point that some are hardier growing in tougher conditions

I'll do some more searching and see what I can find :)

yeah @almimac
I do use a product called Dog Rocks it does help but I always forget to top up as they last 2 months lol then the burn sets in :(
I will try this Miracle-Gro Patch Magic Dog Spot Repair Ive brought but I gotta feeling Im going to have to dig out, re soil and turf/seed those parts

the scraping areas can just be seeded

@Rat

The best way to go is Astroturf and a plastic herbaceous border!

My wife wasn't best pleased when I did this a few years back as the hours saved mowing the lawn I spent in the pub :)

We are thinking about doing that at the back. As we have beach trees that dump their leaves and ruin the grass every year. Along with heavy clay soil.

The quality these days is exceptional. I think the make I purchased was deepdale. As I said it's not a wife pleaser! but on a constructive point i.e. your position with trees etc, it's a superb surface to brush up in a fraction of time and it really does look like Wembley when viewed from the patio windows

Most reputable firms will give you a large section to take home to view in situ, and I wish I had made the move 10 years previous!

cheers

Aye, initial layout wasn't too kind, but several years on without mowing the grass, bad back, miserable weather, and a constant fridge full of beer, I know which I would choose again lol
