Hi all,

curious to know what you all do to keep fit (or fitter!) based upon on your chosen profession.

Im an HGV driver continually trying to avoid greasy food options whilst on the road. anyone else in my situation?

Bike and watch the crap you eat. Eat smaller portions more often. Either bike or swimming but I'm not a good swimmer. Joggings fine but when you get older the joints suffer. I have a m8 in his late 40's with crocked knee's and hips from constantly pounding the roads jogging.

just eat well and look after yourself, dont smoke, keep fit is a good combination for me and im ...old lol

Man i am trying so hard to stop smoking. I haven't smoked in two weeks and i had a strong temptation moment yesterday. I almost gave in..but i am glad i didn't. I have been smoking for the past 5 years.

i gave up smoking in 1999, i use to work a night shift. id buy 20 benson before the shift and by the time my shift finished id only have a few left. i was a heavy smoker. them days there wasnt much to help , only nicorrette gum which i tried so many times and i eventually succeeded in giving up. I chewed nicorrette gum for over 2 years lol, but eventually did it. I still get the urge now and then and have had the odd ciggy , get a mad headache though after wards and wished i never smoked it lol, but havnt gone back yet. Even now i sometimes get a craving specailly when im stressed out, believe me, i have a lot of my stress in my life due to persoanl reasons. Ive always been amember of the gym and can honestly say i feel much fitter now, i havnt put on any weight still around 78kg. i workout a lot , more cardio then weights but it helps to relive my stress. my diet is not brilliant, eat just about anything but importantly i burn it off at the gym. stick to it mate, it will be worth it in the end, i know its hard and very tempting and easy to reach for a ciggy. try joining a gym and when your stressed or get a craving for a ciggy , go for a walk or eat some fruit...wish you luck mate..

Dentist was happy with my checkup this afternoon so I picked up a box of celebrations and a box of heroes on the way home :p

I'll be back on the diet later in the week tho.
Lost about five inches round the middle in the last year, not being mean regime about it all, just being conscious of what I've been consuming really. Keeping an eye on my fat, carbs, sugar intake, portion sizes and grazing habits between meals, after letting it all slide for a few years

From my recent experiences, you don't have to worry too much about your fat intake as long as you keep your sugar, artificial sweeteners and carbs in check. Easier said than done since they're everywhere!
I started a keto diet a couple of months ago and, although weight loss was not my objective, I have lost about 1/2 a stone and a few inches off the belly. (I started a thread in the Health & Fitness room).
I don't 'do' exercise, although I am generally on the move.

Sound/lighting engineer (amongst many other job titles).
When on tour it's very easy to slip into a routine of fast food due to unsociable hours and lots of alcohol. So it's important to find decent meals each day. Some tours you get a daily allowance, like £25, to feed yourself through the day. On other tours they carry catering companies. This is usually the case for large acts with lots of members as it works out cheaper, but I do remember one tour with the Chieftans where they toured with one guy who was a Michelin star chef. The food was exquisite and healthy. We came off of that tour a lot healthier than when we started.
Another tour I spent 6 weeks driving a truck for a kid's theatre show. That wasn't even a daily allowance job, all food came out of your own pocket BUT they did pay for breakfast in the hotels. I had massive fry ups almost every single day for six weeks and still came out of it half a stone lighter than when I started. Also a quick routine each day, just pushing number of press ups, squats and crunches you can do each day, when you get out of bed and just before bed.

Work in IT here so sat at a desk most the day or standing in my garage working (since lockdown started). Prior to lock down I was walking around 6 miles each day on way to work and back. Once lockdown came that went out the window so I started up with the C25K program, first week of doing it I thought there is no way i'll be able to run 30 mins non stop at the end of the plan but I did :). Completed that plan and moved onto the C210K although did my first run tonight after almost 3 weeks off (due to a cold and Sinuisitus) which nearly killed me. I've gone from being able to run over 30 mins non stop a few weeks back to struggling to keep running for any longer than 5 minutes tonight.

Throughout lockdown i've mostly kept to running 3 times a week and usually on my lunch break just so I get away from the computer for a while and get out of the house for exercise and a break from the missus too :)

Must admit the first few weeks were agony but gets much easier and I have found i'm much happier in myself from it.

Food wise, I have found i tend to eat better main meals since lockdown but a little more junk food which is what i struggle to cut out. I'm not overweight yet, but starting to get a bit of a belly on me which i'd like to get rid of.

Once things are back to "normal" if there's one near you you should do a Parkrun on a Saturday morning mate ;)

I have signed up a few weeks back, so will probably do a few. However they are on Sunday mornings here, might be a while before get to do one as they start at 9am i think and i'm usually up with the kids so the other half can catch up on some sleep.

Engineer - If you eat a high fiber diet then you don't need to watch your portion size. The food you eat will be naturally filling and have low energy density. I struggle to keep weight on these days due to my high fiber diet.

Oddly enough, I can only smoke when I've had a few drinks, but I have absolutely no cravings for cigarettes sober.

A little extra weight after quitting smoking is a constant problem. I met it with my friends.
