hi can anyone help my desktop will not boot i am running xp media centre,its been fine,today however when i tried to switch on it got as far as the windows logo and froze tried to get into safe mode did it once,then i re booted,now it wont go into safe mode,is there a way i can format my drive so as to re install system tried putting xp disk in but nothing hapens,i used to have a program called partition magic on two floppys but cannot find them,that would have been a help,anyone got it please,or anything else

Before You try and format the pc, try using FDisk.
Make a dos boot disc with Dos620.exe, which you can download from the net and run FDisk with the switch mbr Ie: A:\Fdisk.exe /mbr.

this should fix any problems with the master boot record.

if that dont work and you still can kill the partions on your drive using Fdisk.

but do this only as a last resort, try and get the CD working by setting the bios back to default setting.

Just stick your xp disk in, make sure bios boots to cd first and then use the instructions to delete partitions and format and start again ;)

Do you still want a floppy image of that software you had misplaced?
