Anyone had any success replacing Vehicle speed sensor to rectify Speedo not working?

Most of the time the sensor does not work, but first check the wiring for damage

if there is obviously no damage, the wiring should be OK. Can you measure the voltage ?

the sensor on the gearbox has three connections. one must have 12v with ignition, a ground, and a rectangle signal (when the wheel turns)

But it can also be due to the combination instrument, there is also a problem with the connector. broken solder connections

Please check the soldering points on the connector of the instrument cluster, if they look like this, then you should re-solder them

Has the odometer stopped working too?
I recently had a 206 with a non-reading speedo but mileage still counted up. Common fault apparently, the motor that drives the speedo needle packs up.

No, don't think so - google says if the odometer reads all dashes it points to the ECU but haven't seen that on this one.
