Few Blu-ray questions

Im assuming that a Blu-ray player will play normal discs and upscale them to HD, but will a Blu-ray disc play as an SD disc in a normal DVD player?

Woman in local video shop asked me, and i dunno lol

no it can't mate, it's a different type of laser used to read a blue ray disk. Standard players can't read them

...and the datastream is huge compared to what a standard DVD player can read.

blu-ray was originally something like 7 X the info storage of a normal DVD when it was first mentioned years ago. I'd liken it to cd and dvd. Its all about the compression. Shame they havnt made things backward compatible but the amount of dvd players sold probable gives that answer.
