I grew up in South Africa and I loved the place.
Every so often I check on Google Earth/Maps for updated images of the town where I lived. Last night I got the shock of my life when I noticed the 'Street View' icon was enabled and I quickly found my old house.
What a buzz. I haven't seen the place for 30 years, it looks much nicer now than it did when I lived there, the entire street is a leafy oasis and every garden has a swimming pool.
One thing I did notice was that every house on the street now had metal cages over the doors and windows and big signs on the walls saying that the home owner has 'weapons for protection'.
Another thing I noticed was that my old 'Whites Only' school had an equal number of black and white kids playing in the playground.
