My mate isn't really into consoles or gaming but he does enjoy the odd game of COD2 and 4 and a few racing games.

Recently I told him that if he bought himself a 360 then I'd flash it and I'd give him all the games he ever wanted for fook all, he wasn't too keen on it but I kept egging him on (is that a real word - egging) and he finally gave is and bought a 360 Premium, he handed it in to me today and guess what, the fooker has a Lite-On :(

He's a little upset with me.

oops!

;)

I told my m8 the same thing in the pub on friday

guess what, there's one of those fookin drives in his as-well

philips/lite-on

Exact same drive as this one mate.

@ manutd4life, Microsoft are fitting all the replacement machines with these drives mate.

@ rs200016valve, The key can be read from them but there is no firmware for them released and currently I believe we cannot write back to the drive. ( u own a RS2000 mate?)

Only solution is to read the key and replace the drive with one that has hacked firmware available.

but these lite ons are becomming a bit of a worry these days a poor lad round our way got a load of red rings send half back and they came back with these horrible drives he now going to fix the rest as he too worried that he will have no flashable ones

So you know how I feel, lol :)

I'll just replace the drive I think rather than send it all back.

Currently we can read the key from these drives but the usual GODS of the 360 haven't released anything that we can inject the key into to allow us to play games, so that leaves us with only one solution, we extract the key and we inject it into a new drive, voila free games! :)

For the sake of spending around £20-£30 on a replacement drive we can all have backups working on our 360's again, it's cheaper than buying originals thats for sure :)

Hi Witchy m8,

You say the key can be read? Is that using the standard benQ way? Then spoof it onto a sammy or something, I still have ny bros sat here, I hadnt even bothered to try and grab the key, if its poss I will grab him a sammy off fleabay and spoof it for him :)

Did I miss some big news that the firmware can be read?

The data cannot even be dumped from the full chip in an external programmer.

You most certainly cant spoof as a Lite-On either as no-one knows the drive string.

Again, unless something has happened on DigitalWorldz that hasnt been leaked yet?

Witchy, do you have a source for this information?

Wouldnt mind knowing how to extract the key as-well

I have a spare hitatchi drive in the shed ready to go if it can be spoofed

*cough*

It's not true, I read it on a site and didn't do any research to confirm it.

I'll get my coat.

I got a rrod one myself, repaired using helpful guides on here, and use mainly as marra says, for a media centre extender! SOOOOOOO LOUD though, anyone had any luck making these things any quieter?

Not bothered when playing games, but makes a difference when watching normal tv!

you could get one mate and repair it yourself by all accounts it dont look too hard i was thinking about doin the same thing for the a media center thinghy for the bedroom

but i dont want the problem to come back, atleast if m$ fix it and it goes rrod again, they will do it for free, hopefully.
