WiiU-GamePad-eShop.jpg

This week Nintendo has delivered a fairly lengthy list of options on the way. There are new titles on Wii U and 3DS as well as some retro VC options, while a variety of temporary and permanent discounts also arrive to tempt you into parting with your funds. Let's get to it.

Wii U eShop
Evofish (Moving Player, €3.99 / £3.59) — Originally a title on Android and iOS, it arrives on the Wii U with bright, colourful visuals and new multiplayer modes. Moving Player is keen to emphasize that — beyond single player — the asynchronous multiplayer options will make this a fun party game on the system. We'll get together and see whether we agree with that school of thought in our upcoming review.

Wii U Virtual Console
Wario's Woods (Nintendo, €4.99 / £3.49) — This NES title lands on the Wii U Virtual Console, adding to the contingent of 8-bit puzzle titles available to download. It has action elements that holds up pretty well, and we gave it a recommendation in our Wario's Woods review.

Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Darksiders II (Nordic Games, €39.99 / £31.99 until 13th March, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
Knytt Underground (Ripstone, €4.49 / £3.99 until 6th March, normally €8.99 / £7.99)
Wii U eShop Permanent Discounts
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist (Ubisoft, €29.99 / £19.99, was €44.99 / £36.99)
Just Dance 4 (Ubisoft, €19.99 / £14.99, was €39.99 / £29.99)

3DS eShop
AeternoBlade (CORECELL, €14.99 / £13.50) — After a fairly protracted process to gain localisation funding, this brawler finally completes its journey into Europe. With RPG and 'Metroidvania' elements this is appealing on paper, but we feel it is a bland and occasionally frustrating experience; we awarded 5/10 in our AeternoBlade review.
The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths (Ynnis Interactive, €14.99 / £13.49) — This adventure arrived on the Wii U eShop last year, and finally makes its promised transition to the 3DS eShop. Based on the increasingly popular TV show, with future content to follow events from its namesake, this places you in the shoes of three children that must be guided through puzzles and tricky scenarios. We'll try this out on 3DS, but until then you can see what we thought in our Wii U eShop Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths review.

3DS Virtual Console
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (Nintendo, €4.99 / £4.49) — Recently provided as a free download to all 3DS owners in Europe with a registered Nintendo Network ID, the end of that promotion sees this arrive as a standard download. A Game Boy Color re-release of the classic NES title, it has a zoomed-in view due to pixel limitations, but also has extra challenges and visual embellishments. The limitations of the original hardware perhaps restricts its effectiveness, though we were bursting with praise in our retro Super Mario Bros. Deluxe review; we'll review once again to see how well the NES title and its tweaks stand up in this version.

3DS Retail Download
Senran Kagura Burst (Marvelous AQL, €34.55 / £29.99) — This title has perhaps attracted attention for its character designs and the fact it made it West at all, but once the game starts it delivers fast, combo-intensive fighting gameplay that is hugely enjoyable. You can check out our recommendation in the Senran Kagura Burst review.
Jewel Quest Mysteries 3 - The Seventh Gate (MSL, €11.99 / £10.79)
Bibi & Tina - Das Spiel zum Kinofilm (€39.99)

3DS eShop Temporary Discount
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate (Konami, €22.49 / £19.99) until 6th March, normally €44.99 / £39.99)

Wii U eShop
My Exotic Farm (BIP Media, €4.99 / £4.49) — This is the second remake from this series to arrive on the Wii U, giving you the task of running, maintaining and expanding your farm and its profits. Like its predecessor this has left us unimpressed, being more chore-sim than enjoyable game; our My Exotic Farm review has the details.

Wii U Virtual Console
Golden Sun (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) — An RPG series that plenty of people are keen to see return to the current generation of systems, after two GBA titles and one on DS; this is the first of those entries that may just draw in a new group of fans while providing nostalgia for others. We'll try to save the world again for our upcoming review.
F-Zero Maximum Velocity (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) — While we may impatiently await the day that the F-Zero franchise returns, this arrives to help soften the blow. This Game Boy Advance entry certainly prompts some debate among fans due to the differences in its handling from its predecessors. Despite that ability to divide opinion, it has some enthusiastic advocates, and earned a recommendation in our 3DS Ambassador F-Zero Maximum Velocity review; we'll take to the track for another race on Wii U.

Wii U eShop Promotion
If you already own My Farm on Wii U, you can download My Exotic Farm on the same system for €3.49 / £3.14.

Wii U eShop Permanent Discount
My Farm (BIP Media, €4.99 / £4.49, was €7.99 / £7.19)

Wii U eShop Temporary Discount
Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (Disney, €17.49 / £14.99 until 24th April, normally €34.99 / £29.99)
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Black Forest Games, €8.99 / £7.79 until 24th April, normally €14.99 / £12.99)

3DS eShop
Nintendo Pocket Football Club (Nintendo, €11.99 / £10.79 until 1st May, will be €14.99 / £13.49) — A sequel to a little-known Game Boy Advance title released in Japan, this takes its own distinctive approach to football management. It may not have the depth of PC-based football-sim titles, but it's well put together and has charm in abundance. You can read all about it and why we gave it a recommendation in our Nintendo Pocket Football Club review.
Tiny Games - Knights & Dragons (Reactor, €2.99 / £2.49) — Very little detail is given for this one aside from the fact it's the first of a series of mini-game collection aimed at young gamers. We'll let you know what it's like soon.

3DS Virtual Console
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Konami, €4.99 / £4.49) — The final part of the original NES trilogy, this returned to the linear action platforming of the original but threw in its own fresh ideas, including three playable characters with different abilities. It's another game where restore point abuse will be the norm, but we were big fans in our Wii Virtual Console Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse review; we'll defeat Dracula once again on 3DS.

3DS Retail Download
Putty Squad (System 3 Software, €19.99 / £17.99)

3DS Retail Demos
Mario Golf: World Tour (Nintendo, free)
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (NIS America, free)

3DS eShop Promotion
If you purchase Mario Golf: World Tour on the eShop from 2nd May until 29th May, you will receive a free download of the Game Boy Color Mario Golf for free — the download code will have to be redeemed by 30th June. The Game Boy Color title will then be available to purchase from the European eShop for €4.99 / £4.49 from 29th May.

3DS eShop Temporary Discount
Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (Disney, €9.99 / £8.99 until 24th April, normally €19.99 / £17.99)

WiiU-GamePad-eShop.jpg

Wii U eShop
NES Remix 2 (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) — After the success of the first Remix compilation following its late 2013 release, the release of this sequel is no surprise. It features a host of fresh titles and challenges, as well as new modes for those with save data of the original and the ability to save and share replays. We were fans of this new entry in our recently published NES Remix 2 review — it's available from Friday 25th April.

Wii U Virtual Console
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) — The final part of the opening run of Game Boy Advance titles on the Wii U Virtual Console, this is the portable's version of the iconic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. While the visual tricks may have lost a little in translation, the terrific gameplay and design survives the transition; we'll flutter jump our way through this again, but in the meantime you can check out our 3DS Ambassador Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island review.

3DS eShop
Sayonara UmiharaKawase (Agatsuma Entertainment, €24.99 / £19.99) — Better known as Yumi's Odd Odyssey from its retail release in North America, the title's developer is bringing the game to Europe as a download-only release. With hints of time travelling and clever puzzle platforming mechanics, its peculiar title shouldn't work against this one — we gave it a strong 9/10 recommendation in our Yumi's Odd Odyssey review.
Bit Boy!! ARCADE (Bplus, €7.99 / £7.19) — A sequel to a WiiWare title, this takes an interesting approach in storytelling, taking opportunities to explain development processes while referencing plenty of classics; main character Kubi even interacts with his own developer. Smart ideas fall over in execution, however, with design flaws dragging the experience down; we weren't fans in our Bit Boy!! ARCADE review.

3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
3D Mahjongg (Joindots, €3.99 / £3.29 until 8th May, normally €4.99 / £4.49)
Funfair Party Games (Joindots, €6.99 / £6.99 until 8th May, €19.99 / £17.99)
Gardenscapes (Joindots, €5.99 / £5.99 until 8th May, normally €14.99 / £14.99)
Secret Agent Files: Miami (Joindots, €6.99 / £5.79 until 8th May, normally €7.99 / £6.99)

DSiWare
Sea Battle (Teyon, 200 Nintendo Points) — DSiWare will not be sunk, as prolific publisher Teyon returns with this video game version of Battleships, albeit with some tweaks to the formula to liven up proceedings. We'll sink everyone's Battleship in our upcoming review.
