Lost some good members over all this nonsense, how long for I don't know.
Having read a few, (much) of the offending posts, some posts were just down right wrong, (unless you tolerate racism) while others were pointless, and deliberately made to stir trouble. Things could have been handled much better, but it's been done now so no point crying over it, nobody will change their minds over it. Hopefully a few lessons will have been learned by all though.
I've had much support from this community, and I hope to see it return to that nature.
If it were me, I'd ban all religion and race talk, as some folks just look for trouble on that subject. I'd also activate the swear filter, and make it include the words related to the racism threads as well as standard offensive swear words. Mods life would get much easier.
Anyway, that's it from me on the whole sorry affair.

Nice post mate and i think your right but its a shame such long bans have been issued and its a shame the way it ended up and as a result its DW that looses out as they were good guys..
I would like to say that the admin and mods do a good job and its a job a wouldn't thank you for as its helluva tough.
Dw has been going for a long time and am sure a lot of you have seen so much change and also seen stuff like this before.
To run this site takes a helluva lot of work from guys dedicated in what they do for free and they must wonder why sometimes.lol
To be put on the spot and make a decision may sound easy but its not and mistakes can happen even if the decision is discussed.
A accept that people can't always make the right choice,, we are only human but its equally important how we deal with mistakes and to loose the guys that we lost in the way it happened was wrong..
Am not looking to argue with anyone as there has been enough here today already..
A just wanna say thanks to everyone who has helped me and to all the good guys (you know who you are).

I have been very disappointed over the last year or so because the friendlyness seems to have been overtaken by the bitching.
There are only 13 rules and I have always liked the fact that dw is pretty relaxed but this has been taken as a sign that anything goes and I am a believer that we need rules to draw the boundarys of what is and is not acceptable.
I have got carried away before and been banned for it, When I have been banned my 1st reaction was always that i'm never coming back but then I realise that I was out of line and come back and I behave myself.
If there were no rules then this would be a horrible place as anarchy rarely works.
Hopefully everyone will see this and come back, if they don't then the forum will carry on as it always does.

I came here to hack things break thing and more recently be able to help a few peeps in the process.
I hope this doesnt blight the forum and more importantly start becoming a bitch fest to moan every day about what has happened.
I personally have no problem with any members who are in the pink.

I would like to see a little ban zone where you can see the sentence and reason though as it would maybe stop a lot of secondary posts!

You've a good point there gez, I was thinking the same thing myself only yesterday, N3 really fecked everything for us in as a hacking forum, we cant talk openly about CS ( rightly so ) so that didn't leave much to discuss and subsequently the members get bored and end up trolling the rags for non stories to post and for some it's the kind of crap that they feed off.
but the way long standing members where humiliated yesterday was absolutely appalling when a pm marking their cards then a post for all members to curb the swearing would have had a better effect than what transpired.
I've been getting a bit fed up myself of late with the benign posts on here and the way certain members are taking the forum, and before anyone tells me " if you dont like it, you know what you can do " it may very well be the time to move on.

When things are done in secret people complain and now when a different tactic is tried there are still complaints so it's damned if you do and damned if you don't
.I think we all get fedup every so often but our diversity is what for me makes the forum great. I don't agree with everyone but thats what makes it interesting but I prefer heated debates to personnal attacks and swearing (not against swearing just not on here).
The problem is when you meet face to face you have body language etc to see if your upsetting people, on here things can easily be misinterpreted and get out of hands which is why rules are needed.
Just my opinion.
It was certainly the lowest point this forum has hit in all the years I've been here.
Perhaps an apology would help to clear the air?
My tuppence worth. There needs to be a clearer set of guidelines drawn up so that members/Mods have a better idea as to what can and cant be said. I have certainly felt there there has been one rule for some and another for others and when you try to point this out then you are sometimes threatened with a ban, which in turns means that you could harbour a grudge against that certain Mod(s). Us memebers deserve to be heard and if we feel agrieved we should be allowed to say so and why we feel we have been treated wrongly......an open and frank discussion should be allowed in order prevent further annimosity. If we are prevented from having this discussion then i'm afraid the forum could wither on the vine and be inhabited by suck ups such as those on football 365 who have to agree with mods/admin or are deleted for good.
Clear guidelines, thicker skins, freedom of speach, general courtesy amongst all - that's all it needs.

I am not that keen on swearing in the forums but I am put off much more by the racist, homophobic and mysogynistic tone of many posts.
There are people here from many backgrounds who have varied and diverse view points: if we all feel the need to constantly press our own particular views then all that can arise is rancour.
I wish the rules were more closely followed and applied.
