Electronics question

Hi all, I may be in the wrong section but wasn't sure where to post.

Ok here goes, I have a tv with a hdmi sender and a fire stick. It's wall mounted but only has one USB port. There is only one mains feed to it and I have found an ac to 5v dc transformer to power both devices.


I am wondering if I were to wire a 5v relay from the USB port would it handle the live from the switching terminal?

It doesn't sound safe to me but I am hoping someone knows if it is, or if there is a better option ?

I wouldn't try it without an optocoupler or a board that is suitable for it, look on ebay....
