What hardware do you use and recommend? Please post your links and comments here to avoid multiple postings on the same subject

There are many options available out there - I have used the technotrend 2300 and the firedtv myself so I can't comment on the quality of and of the others

FIREDTV - C

These are expensive but have the CI slot built in and support BDA. Also has MCE and Vista - you will need a firewire card for this one too. Looks smart and I've not had any trouble with it even though the site says its not UK Cable compatible.

TECHNOTREND (premium & budget)

I wouldn't recommend the 2300 premium - get the budget 1500 instead as it supports BDA, however these are as out of stock at the moment. You will be limited by what software you can use with the 2300 - no MCE or mediaportal support AFAIK and I'm not sure there is vista support either

I have both the 1500 and the 2300 and the 2300 has been a bit problamatic - I would definately recommend the 1500 unless you can find an older 2100 somewhere

I was trying to get a TT 1500 but couldn't find one anywhere.

The twinhan card with CI works a treat:

http://www.hisat.com/proddetail.php?prod=RECVP2031

It has BDA drivers that work well with all the windows apps I've tried, also they've released some Vista drivers but I don't know what they're like.

Gerner have you tried to get it working within MCE2005 though ? with cam and decrypring

Nope, I've never tried it with MCE. I wouldn't like to say for sure if it works or not without trying it , but it looks like it does.

Twinhan have an app that allows you to access the scrambled channels through your cam, look for the CI Console at the bottom of this page:

http://www.twinhan.com/download_driver&software.asp#UTILITIES

The read me from it says:

Twinhan CI (Common interface) support utility for Microsoft MediaCenter 2005 (MCE2005)

Introduction:
Microsoft's MCE2005 supports only FTA (Free To Air) channels, and this utility can enable CI
interface, so as to decrypt scrambled programs in MCE2005.

Install:
Device supported: Mantis PCI series, VP-1034, VP-3030.
878 PCI series, VP-1030, VP-1032, VP-3040.

Their dvb-c with CI card uses Mantis drivers.

I got the c1500 works great with xp

but as for vista there are beta drivers for it but when I used it get the following problems

32bit vista ultimate
installs and scans picks up all channels but when you try to watch tv it goes from a super fast FPS to a really slow FPS

64 Bit Vista Ultimate
Installs ok carnt scan for channels hense no picture

i bought a C-2300 premium card a while back, after loads of reading i got it working but found the scan doesnt work that well, i had to use the fequencies from my Dbox xml files to do a scan.

I've git rid of that now and have ordered a C-1500 budget card, i'll post te results when i get it working

i bought a technisat cablestar dvbc pci card nearly 3 years ago and it works very well with progdvb.
