Dundee United have sold striker Noel Hunt to Reading after accepting an improved bid from the English club.

The 25-year-old former Dunfermline forward scored 18 goals for the Terrors last season, finishing as top scorer.

"This represents an excellent deal for Dundee United and helps bring further financial stability to the club," said Tannadice manager Craig Levein.

Hunt has signed a three-year deal and the undisclosed transfer fee is thought to be around £600,000 for the Irishman.

Hunt's brother Stephen already plies his trade with Reading, who are replacing Dave Kitson after his £5.5m sale to Stoke City.

Hunt, who began his career with Shamrock Rovers, had one year of his contract to run with Dundee United.

I liked him as a player, only really saw him against the Old Firm but he was always up for it and a good talent. Think he will be a big loss to Dundee Utd especially having lost Robson to Celtic too.
