Ds R4 blah blah blah

Hi I am new to all this and technical jargon isnt my forte at the best of times so please bear with me!!
I have an r4 (standard one) and use it fine with my ds lite. I am wanting to upgrade to the ds xl i. now saying as the r4 is just an adapter can i put the latest r4i firmware on my r4 to enable me to use it in a ds xl i? when i first got mine it was a case of there was only really 1 type so you couldnt go wrong but i have just done a search and now i am completely confused with the gold and xtreme packages. Someone please help before i go :arrrr:
 
It won't work with the dsi, you need something like an acekard2i. That's what I've got. Pretty cheap, just google it.
 
cheers for that! so is the acekard2i the best of what is out there?
 
Everybody will have their own favourite but Acekard 2i's the one I would recommend too.

Yup, gets my vote too. Beware though, when I trnasferred over my DSi save to my wee lads DS AceKard on his DS Lite, they didnt work.Had to play em all again for him (aw, poor me!) :banana:

apparently if you change the file extension of your savfile from .SAV to .nds.sav
the acekard will recognise it....
