DS Help & advice please

I often take the mother in law to Hospital and have to wait around for some time while she has treatment
I have been watching films on my sons PSP but with a 2gig card cant get loads on there

I was thinking about getting a DS to watch films and play games I have never even seen the screen on one
so not sure how good the films are on there or the games
also what size memory can I go for and what cartridge system do you advise
