Dreambox500s set up - newbie

Hey ppl i just got my dm500s n the door this morning and would like to get stuck into getting it set up i got a sat dish with it but finding it v hard to set up for a signal can anyone help out? I'm in ireland in SW if thats any help i have an idea on where all the other dishes in my area point but need some help i got me a sat signal finder but might as well be p*ssing against the wind with it.

also what kind of a dish have you got, is it motorised?
 
And its not motorised dish not yet anyways i want to just get some channels on this to see if it works and go frm there
 
Ok is it a fixed dish or motorised as Eva asked also your going to do a bit of reading to get it working. First thing to do is flash it this is the loader

. Ok connect the box using a null modem as per flashing other boxes leave box off just now press connect on loader and then switch box on and select ja/yes when prompted. After flashing set box back to tv save on tv setting language etc when you get to sat settings select one single sat for a fixed dish I assume thats what it is and from the dropdown select 28.2 east save all settings.. Ok under blue button browse to downloads download latest panel and download a channel list for sky/astra 28.2 however it's named once completed select a channel then under blue button again go to dish/satellite settings in there you will find a signal meter showing strength and quality use this to align your satellite properly a signal beeper is also usefull sorry it's a bit hasty and brief but I'm in a bit of a hurry hope this helps

just a quick question, might sound stupid now but if i wanted to mount the sat dish inside in my attic would that get a good enough signal?

As long as you had an open air roof :)

You need a clear line of sight mate
 
I saw a photo once of a setup that had the dish on a tripod facing an attic window the guy swore it worked must have had a line of sight to the sat :cool:

Ok i went to do this yesterday but found the box has a male rs232... as does my cable so caan't flash it until i get a female to female connector.. local store wanted 20quid for it so ordered one online just waiting :S
 
Just another Question Portbhoy - you say connect and flash box with loader - is that the Downloader 10 one cus thats the one i've used before? oh and no i won't have a clear line of sight was hoping to get it it set up insde the attic - prob wishful thinking!

have you ordered an rs232 or a null modem cable? an ordinary rs232 won't do the job.

Doesnt this box have an ethernet port to connect too, I am sure I flashed one using a wired connection

Can this be flashed using the ethernet port? what downloader should i use if i do it that way? yes sorry i got the null connector wont be here until next week tho :(
 
im sure i flashed mine , wirelessley over my wifi internet ??
i just plugged the ethernet on back of the dreambox into my router.
then the dreambox auto picked up my LAN ip address .
installed flash fxp on my laptop . used quick connect and put in the ip address of the dreambox .
user..root
pass...dreambox
i then transfered the image i wanted into the .tmp folder on the dreambox , and updated the image using the remote and the on screen menu .

EDIT..this was a while ago , but i am sure they was the basics ?
 
Ah no would you believe it i just founf a female to female connector here! ok i have the dreamup open now and the box connected what do i do now it says please turn on the box but not getting anything i selected the COM3 port and have not gone near the use network section any help plzz?
 
Mate have you seen this excellent guide I used. I got it from here but can not remember who the creator is so a big big big up to him, maybe someone can remember so the correct props can be given
