Yes it has to be on. If receiver is off, how can you communicate/change files on it?

Bear in mind that you will have to set a password on box before you can FTP to it. You can do that in the network menu, you should see the password sub-menu.

You can also find the IP address in the adapter settings sub menu. You can then tell DCC what IP address to use
