Cuellar Goes To Villa

Aston Villa have agreed a fee with Rangers for Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar.

Cuellar has been linked with a move away from Ibrox since Rangers lost their UEFA Champions League qualifier against FBK Kaunas last week.

Walter Smith had been hoping to keep the 26-year-old but Villa have now made a bid of 10million euros (£7.8million) which triggered a release clause in his Rangers contract.

Villa are now set to hold talks with Cuellar On Tuesday and he will officially join the Premier League club if he passes a medical.

good Player will be missed heard spurs were also linked thought they would be a better prospect

Time Will Tell If Hes Another Boumsong Was He Pushed The Same As Hutton Or Did He Really Have A Get Out Clause Or Was The Clause For Rangers? Was He Really Injured For Cl Or Was He Left Out In Order Not To Cup Tie Him

Martin O'Neil helping his old club again by taking Rangers best player?. It's disappointing to say the least but i hope they spend some of the money bringing Stevie Davis to the club and also a half-decent centre back to replace Cuellar. I think David Murray has shown his true intentions about his future at the club by not re-investing in the team any monies gained from last season . Right now i can see the league going :toiletcla

smug tim git.

oowwftt is what i would say... I would be raging if i was a rangers fan...Surely it cannot get much worse. \Why sell arguably the best player in the team. Suppose if it frees up funds to by some quality in midfield then it would make sense but the future aint bright... the future certainly aint orange..

I genuinely belive walter smith will not be at the club next season. Which is a shame really as he seems like a good manager to play for (ie good man management and creator of good team spirit) but tactically he is a bit ski wiff. And does Murray actually care anymore.

On paper Celtic look like running away with it ..... but thats the joy of fitba .Could be completely different come the end of the season.

Martin O'Neill hopes to complete his sixth new signing of the summer but insists the search for reinforcements will not stop there.
Villa have had a bid accepted for Rangers defender Carlos Cuéllar after triggering a release clause in the Spaniard's contract.
The 26-year-old is now set for talks and a medical and will hopefully join Steve Sidwell, Brad Friedel, Brad Guzan, Nicky Shorey and Luke Young in the Villa squad.
O'Neill though is chasing more new arrivals "If we're going to try and compete, even at Premier League level let alone Europe, we need a decent squad. So we need to keep adding quality if we can.
"We've lost Freddie Bouma and we were quite thin on the ground before that. That sort of injury can happen at any given minute. Therefore we need to try and safeguard as much as we can.
"What we've done is bring in a recognised right-back and a recognised left-back to help us. We didn't have the right-back last year but it wasn't for lack of trying.
"We've not finished. We'll still have some players coming in to give us a chance and if we're lucky enough to qualify for the group stages of the UEFA Cup that would take us right up to Christmas and we'll most definitely need the squad.
"Last season we were exceptionally lucky with injuries. Eight or nine players played over 30 games and we didn't have big runs in the FA or League Cup - therefore we were able to concentrate on the League.
"All that could change this season and the fact is that we need the squad to be bigger to cope with that. That's what we're trying to do."
