Moved into a new flat that has a face plate sat connector to communal sat dish.

I've hooked up my freesat using a coax cable I used in the old flats cable tv.
I'm not getting a signal on the freesat and was wondering if the cable tv coax is not suitable for satellite?

TV co-ax (the old type with no foil) is not ideal, but should work OK over a short length- at least to test & see if everything is working. Did you change the traditional co-ax plug to an F-connector? (It may sound like asking the obvious, but .....!)

Yes using a f-connector lead.
I had vermin cable tv in the old place, using the lead from the cable tv box into the freesat box

Are you sure the building has a current working setup...? maybe it's just an faceplate to nowhere...
