Hi.
I have had my wireless network set up for over a year now.
I use a TRUST Speedshare TURBO Router/Access point and a Trust Speedshare Turbo PCI card on My PC and Belkin 54g cards on the two kids PC's
The router is connected DIRECTLY via cable to my Cable Modem (Obviously) and as my Broadband and Cable Connections come through the same box my router it is very near to my DBox, so I have a normal ethernet cable connected to it off the router.
The router assigns IP adresses Automatically to my PC's but you need to set the Dbox IP up yourself.
Press "Dbox" scroll to "Settings" Click "OK"
And Go to "Network" Option 4 I think. (Box Downstairs)
Now just set your IP address to one that is within range of your Router e.g 192.168.1.150 Assuming your routers range is 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.199
Net Mask is usually 255.255.225.0
DNS is usually the Routers IP address eg. 192.168.1.1
Click on the Set up Network NOW option and then "Test Network Now"
Depending on your security settings configured via your router you should now at least see that your box IP address has "Ping" beside it others may say "Unreachable" but this may be because your router has blocked it.
To make it easier for you Dbox to have FULL access to your network AND Internet use the "MAC Address security" Option.
This allows any computer that you have placed the MAC address for in the router access to ALL.
As opposed to WPA or WEP passwords which the Dbox will not allow for.
I don't know which router you are using so I don't know your set up procedure but my options are in the "ACCESS" area of my routers setup menu.
I don't know about your router but when I have my system OPEN it lists the MAC addresses of ALL the computers or Dboxes that are connected to your network. Whatever IP address you gave your Dbox it may have it there along side it's MAC address. (Write it DOwn)
To find the MAC addresses on your computers just Click the "Start" button (XP) Click on "Run" and tyoe "cmd" in the box
This brings up a black DOS box. In the box type in "Ipconfig/all" and find the MAC address for all your WIRELESS cards for ALL your network computers and write them all down so you can input them into your "ACCESS" settings.
Save them all and now test your Dbox network settings again.
If you have done it correctly everything should say "REACHABLE" or "PING"
Congratulations you now have your Dbox connected Wirelessly WITHOUT THE NEED FOR A WIRELESS BRIDGE.
As I run a TURBO router and card my Speed is 108 mbps as opposed to 54 for many routers. This means I can STREAM DVD's AVI's and MP3's through to my box without to many problems.
Also FTP'ing and Web Interface are also fully funtional.
The only time I need to connect to my PC directly is when the Box locks me out (Happened once) or I get Kein System (Kids pulled out power cable during flashing)
