Hi all,

I bought an XBOX a few months ago with 4 games (I think!) in Argos when they were doing that £49 deal. I've never modded and XBOX before but have some experience playing with PSPs, dreamboxes etc.

I've had a look around and read the stickies. I read the pdf about softmodding your psp in 10 mins using splinter cell and I also read about using xboxhdm. I've also seen mention of XBMC around. Can anyone give me a bit of a push in the right direction and let me know which is the 'best' mod to research and focus my efforts on. I wan to be able to play backup games watch DVDs and if possible AVIs etc.

Thanks,

Dobby

I always go the Hardware Mod route.
try cheapmod.com
get a duo chip and hard solder it in.

peps have had problems softmodding as it could get bricked.

if you have a mem card/replay kit it is easier doing the splinter cell method. However if you dont then i would use XBOXHDM method using NDURE exploit, this involves a bit of Hardrive swapping etc to enable the possiblity to hack your xbox.

first tell us what you have:

do you have access to a PC?
do you have a mem card and replay kit?

to be honest i think theres risk with both, although i suspect there is probably more with the softmod option......but then the softmod is free and ive not had a situation which i couldnt recover from.

@DOBBY as a starter read up on the sticky by Bally on the NDURE exploit using XBOXHDM. I have read the NDURE method is a lot more robust than the UDE exploit, and if you have a newer revision then i suspect you would need to use the NDURE method as the UDE didnt work on my 1.6

Hi,

Thanks to all for replies.

I read that ndure sticky. I have 2 laptops running xp and a desktop running fedora. As I don't have splinter cell, I will read a bit further on the ndure method.

If you dont want to void your warranty by opening your xbox then best method is to get a mem card thing and use the splinter cell exploit. I think the instructions are in the how to softmod in 10mins thread.

If you havent got a problem with opening up your xbox and doing abit of hotswapping then the best softmod is the ndure version all the instructions are in the stickie thread.

Does require abit of reading and is longer than other way but once you understand it and got everything prepared it only takes you about 20-30minutes.

You could always get a modchip, but then you will have to pay for a mod and if you dont get a solderless chip you need to be good with a solder iron etc...

Softmods are better imo and are more flexible and up to date way of modding your console.

Softmodded loads of xboxes now and have never had any problems.

Very easy to change the harddrive using XBOXHDM aswell.

I would go down this route.
