I need help every time i turn my computer on it runs chkdsk on backup d: if i try to defragment it i get "defragmenter has detected that chkdsk is scheduled to run please run chkdsk/f," .when i run this it says unrecognised parameter if i leave the /f of it say F parameter not defined

how do i stop chkdsk running on startup I cannot find the commands for chkdsk

windows XP home excuse me i just clicked and found bootexecute and it says autocheck autochk

ok, this is the reason why chkdsk is always starting up with windows.

you can do a chkdsk /x D: and that may very well fix it for you. Might want to leave it running over night maybe?

karym6 I have got it cured now I deleted the last file i saw it moving and retyped chkdsk d:/f and demounted drive d: then ran chkdsk it i was able to defrag it so im about to restart now and hope i dont get chkdsk running again
