Hi, i'm looking at buying one of theses types of external drives, how can i find out what power my laptops usb connection kicks out? the laptop is a packard bell k5285. thanks

Prob from the manufacturers website or maybe in your lappy manual. are you worried that you may not have enought power from usb to Run one of these???

Yes, i dont want to buy one of these drives if its not going to work properly on the laptop. thanks for your reply shaun127

the lappy is getting on a bit now, its about 5 years old, i cant find any info about the usb ports power output on the pachard bell website but heres the spec: http://support.packardbell.com/it/item/index.php?pn=P920400006&t=1409

its always run on the main power supply, the battery is u/s

By the look of it it has 4 USB2 ports on the back top right hand side?

make sure your windows is running service pack 2

if it doesnt have enuff power you can get a twin type A usb connector to plug into 2 usb ports and it will then sufficiantly power it up
