capacitor what is positive and what is negative

can someone tell me what side of the capacitor is positive and negative,as far as i can see theres no markings on the capacitor although there is on the board (4001 pace).

if its an electrolytic cap the longer lead would be the + if its a ceramic one there is no + or - on them unless they are a tantalum smd type which would have a coloured bar at one end which would be the +. hope this helps mate

For electrolytic type capacitors there is also usually a stripe printed onto the housing. The leg in line with this stripe is negative.
