Cant connect to net

Hi All, today i brought a new laptop and i plugged it into my modem and tried connecting to the net but it wont allow me, it shows in the network connections as being connected and the modem works through my pc, so i wonder if anyone has had the same problem and can help?

Reboot the modem while plugged into the laptop.

Each time you swap the connection from one to the other the modem will need rebooting.

thanks for the fast reply ..i just tried this and still no joy

tried going into network connections on the start bar and obtaintain IP address automatically and ensure that it is enabled.

Try turning off wireless internet if your laptop allows.

have you installed the modem drivers on the laptop, in some case such as NTL/VM with every PC connected to the modem the setup disk need to be run for the computer to communicate with the modem.
