Am I missing something here?? I have written many CD-RW discs but have never formatted one. I didnt know you needed to and wouldnt even know how to??

When using a disk for UDF format (Direct Write) whether it be a CDR Disk or a CDRW Disk it must be formatted first. The format feature comes up when using Direct CD from adaptec. If the CD is RW then the first time that you format it, it has to be a full format which takes about 30 minutes, afterwards you can do a quick format which takes about 2 minutes. If the disk is a CDR one and you use it as a Direct CD then you can write directly and erase files directly, only trouble is that unlike a RW disk it cannot recover any disk space once written to so if you erase a file it just overwrites the fats.

No i haven,t formatted discs and cant find anything on my comp for formatting. I'll see if i can find some freeware for this.

Right, first of all get rid of incd by uninstalling. Download Direct CD from my site Here
Create a folder on drive C called Adaptec and install it in that folder else it wont work. After installing it will reset. Place a blank CDRW in your burner drive. Give it about 10 seconds and it will ask you if you wish to format for Direct CD. Yes was the answer. First time takes about 30 minutes. Dont disturb it whilst formatting. After you have formatted it you can then write and erase from it directly just like any other normal disk. Tip. When writing to it, give it time and wait for the red light on your burnere to stop blinking before proceeding. Let me know how you get on.

PS Depending on what media and burner you use dictates the write speeds. Usually between 4x and 10x

hi m8,
nice site, well done!
owenzy

cannot open direct cd after unzipping. Cant find anything to open rar files.

gazzaman, you need winrar to open them, take a look here

Unzip the files you will then have .rar .r00 .r01 etc. Install Winrar. Run windows explorer and find the file that ends with .rar. Right click it once and choose Extract Here. This wull unrar your files. You can then install.

I just get an icon on my desctop which i click on, this takes me to winrar which breaks the file down into 4 parts.2 folders, archive and file bin. If i click on the archive it will extract it,then asks for a disc with the next volume. It doesn,t seem to accept the files from me browser.

Do as I said above and try it that way. Boy, this is getting to be hard work. No worries, we will sort ya out yet.

Gazza, after unzipping, all 4 files should be placed in the same folder before you unrar them.
