They can be unlocked, but there is no free software to unlock these.
In Madchester there will be plenty of places that can unlock them. The cheapest standalone solution is around the £100 mark.
Before she buys it, ask for a demo........They are really bad. There are similar Samsungs, etc for the same money that will have it.
