Bravia X vs W

A mate of mine is looking at getting either a Bravia X or W series LCD and we've been discussing the differences. As far as I can tell the significant difference is the version of the bravia engine (drm-cf) in each tv with the better one reserved for the X series. But which version is actually in the UK models and is there that much difference between the two in how they process non-1080p sources?

I've seen the W series try and play SD content but it was pretty poor with a very grainy image.

The Samsung F71 series gives a SD great picture
