Genetics experts have been amazed by the birth of a blonde, blue-eyed white baby - to a black couple.

doctors insist tiny Nmachi is not an albino and neither of the parents has any mixed-race family history.

Dad Ben Ihegboro, 44, a railway customer services adviser, said: "We both just sat there after the birth staring at her for ages - not saying anything.

"The first thing I said was 'What the flip?'."

Nmachi, whose name means Beauty of God in the Nigerian homeland of parents Angela and Ben, was born at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup, Kent.

Doctors there told them she is not an albino.

"She doesn't look like an albino child anyway - not like the ones I've seen back in Nigeria or in books," Ben told The Sun. "She just looks like a healthy white baby."

Ben added: "Of course, she's mine. My wife is true to me. Even if she hadn't been, the baby still wouldn't look like that.

"We don't know of any white ancestry. We wondered if it was a genetic twist. But even then, what's with the long curly blonde hair?"

Professor Bryan Sykes, head of Human Genetics at Oxford University, said: "In mixed race humans, the lighter variant of skin tone may come out in a child - and this can sometimes be startlingly different to the skin of the parents.

"This might be the case where there is a lot of genetic mixing, as in Afro-Caribbean populations. But in Nigeria there is little mixing."

He said that both parents would have needed some form of white ancestry for a pale version of their genes to be passed on.

"The hair is extremely unusual," Prof Sykes said. "Even many blonde children don't have blonde hair like this at birth."

Some form of unknown mutation was the most likely explanation, he added.

The couple, of Woolwich, south London, have two other children, four-year-old Chisom and sister Dumebi, two.

Mum Angela, 35, told the paper: "Nmachi's colour doesn't matter. She's a miracle baby. But still, what on earth happened here?"

I find this very hard to believe. The most likely explanation is the mother has been playing away. I think they should do a DNA test on both of the parents and the child.

So out of Billions of births this is the first one of its kind ????, bullshit, iether they want to make money prom the publicity, or the is another person involved. DNA tests I think, but who to say they will tell the truth, Lets see Nigeria - scams - money (its the best one I have heard for a while) lol.

The baby was born in Kent? :err:

Even if it is a different father, it's still unusual for her to have a totally white baby with blonde hair.

my mate used to go out with a girl who was halfcaste or at least looked halfcaste, anyway her mum was white and her dad was black, although to me he looked more like a halfcaste if you know what i mean, anyway both of his parents (biological i might add ;) ) where white, with no history of mixed race in them. True as i`m here, there was a medical thing she told me about but cant remember it.

This might be one reason that could be assumed to be the answer.
Discussions on the heredity of phenotype often focus upon whether Black parents can have a White child. More precisely, whether a parent who self-identifies as a member of the U.S. Black endogamous group can have a child who looks so White (has such a European phenotype) that he or she has little choice in adulthood but to either self-identify as White (like Carol Channing) or to evade the question altogether (like Vin Diesel).

On the radio this morning they did mention that this has happened before with DNA tests to prove parentage.

maybe the hospital mixed up the babies lol

there could be a swedish couple on another ward with a black baby thinking they have a miracle too lol

Bang on, we were told in school that there is a 1 in 4 chance of having a black baby if your parents are both white. So it must be the same for black people having white kids.

i used to know a couple
one black african deasent and one english white they had twins

one was black and looked african and one was white and looked caucasian as they say
