Hi guys

My virgin router is in my front room. I'd like to add ethernet ports in my loft to connect to consoles to play isos. What is the best way of doing this and is adding a network switch the answer?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the replies guys, I can run a cable from the virgin Internet out of the house and back in at the loft no problem, can I run a cable from the modem to a switch in the loft, and connect ps2 / ps3 other consoles and a pc, so that they can all access the Internet but also run the isos from the pc? Sorry if I'm not explaining myself very well, I know nothing about networking

Yes you can do that. Ethernet cable from Superhub will go to loft and into the switch. The PC and consoles will then connect to the switch using ethernet cables.

You can then connect a wireless access point into the switch too if your WiFi is not strong enough. However, in my opinion you are better off using a router and disabling DHCP and setting the gateway as the main router. Some routers have a mechanical toggle switch so you don't have to spend time altering the settings.
