Hi there, i have tried installing the AWUS036H 802.1b/g 1w adapter on my winxp and win7 machines. The problem being it keeps saying the device is disconnecting and then reconnecting constantly.

Any ideas guys?

(i have 2 of these adapters and they are both doing the same. Ideally i would like them to work with win7 and xp)

Cheers,
Nick

is this 2 wireless connections to a wireless router or just peer 2 peer ?

also try turning off 802.1x authentication within properties

Its a wireless dongle trying to connect to a router. The setting 802.1x is already disabled, but the problem persists. Could it be the drivers that are buggy? just seems strange that its happening with winxp and win7.

try using a different channel

it is not uncommon for congestion when loads of people are using the same wireless channel on your street

http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider

worth using the above software to find a channel that no one else uses

also it can show you the best channel concerning noise and SNR levels

Thanks for that, its an unsecured wireless network using channel 1. As its not my router i assume i cannot change it. These adapters seen buggy tbh no matter what network i connect to. The hardware disconnects and reconnects, sometimes staying on for a while and sometime rebooting constantly.

Done some looking around and it appears that it is drivers. What models are you machines? Are you using 64bit or 32bit W7?

It seems the AWUS036H (Alfa) from Data Alliance is also known as the Realtek 8187 or Realtek 8187b

The W7 driver you newed is on the following link. Just wait the 50 seconds or so to download it for free.

036_WindowsDriver_Win7_6.1316.1209.2009_UI_1.00.0145.L.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

The xp driver is on the following link

8187_1313.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

If you look at the following link you can also get the Power Control Drivers and some update guides that might be useful

ALFA Network – WLAN, WiFi phone, ADSL, KVM, Bluetooth, PoE Products -- AWUS036H (Upgrade to 1Watt)

Let us know how you get on.

Just an update, still going off. Plays sound as if i have disconnected the device and reconnected it. Strange how it happens on both devices even with different machines and OS's. Tried the power control, it says the device is connected and then i try and change the power output and then it says its not connected. These adapters where from 2 different sellers also.

incidently, does it connect / disconnect with every AP have you tried connecting it to your router and not the `unsecured` one you own ;)

fair do`s, but i cant agree with them being not that stable, ive used them for years and have never a had a problme with them, so not sure whats going on with them then.

Can't question stability guess yottabit can! Could also be that when you bought yours they were made in a decent place.
