AVG free no more!!!

Ive started getting the message to upgrade to AVG 8 as the updates for AVG 7.5 will end 31st may
problem is ive got to pay for it:FRIGHT:
is there a way round this or should i change to a different virus protection
if so which?
ive used Mcafee and norton in the past but found them a real pain in the arse
and they slow mc pc right down

lol my mistake

when goin through the upgrade process it states i SHOULD install Internet sucurity suite,but dosnt say i must lol.
