avensis clutch help

ok peeps my dads got a toyota avensis d4d 2ltr 54reg

the gears change fine but the clutch pedal stays to the floor and is hard

i have been told its the clutch master cylinder that needs replacing
but some peeps sugested its the slave cylinder??

so which 1 would cause this problem?
