Atmel Hinderances

I think this is probably the best plce to post this.
If I were to get my Atmels (still in the ditv2000) sent off and read or read and reprogrammed howmuch would a decent price be? Playing with atmels is way beyond my spade like hands.
Would it be easy for those in the know to reprogram an atmel from one supplier to another and grab the bk number ready for me to tinker with cards?
