asus battery problem

my dauters asus laptop charger broke
and she used her laptop untill it went totaly dead
now we got a new charger when she plugs it in it works ok
it can be on charge for hours but then when you disconect the mains it just go's dead the battery seems to have no charge at all
do i have to do some thing to the battery

If the battery is getting on a bit and has been left on charge all the time then you will need to replace it.
